I’ve been teasing y’all the past couple Sundays with lines from the manuscript I’m querying–it’s a weird YA mutt of soft horror, paranormal romance, Southern ghost story, historical fiction, and a small thread of LGBT. (Can I just call it YA Southern Gothic/Grotesque?)
Anyway, Dylanie’s broken the rules at Oakleigh House by going out on her room’s balcony at night. She’s heard a man calling her name, and last week someone or something brushed her cheek, lulling her into a dreamy state (not something our punky tomboy is used to at all).
“No–ouch!” For the second time today, I smack my head on part of a window. “Who the hell are you and what do you want? God, you almost had me there.”
He chuckles. “Oh, I intend to.”
Mmmm, confidence is sexy. Next week, I promise you’ll find out who “he” is.
Please be sure to check out the other Six Sentence Sunday participants–all genres and all styles are represented. Have a great week!
I like his confidence in the face of her frustration. Lovely work.
Well he’s not modest or inhibited at all, is he? Can’t wait to find out who he is! Great six!
Love her spunkiness and his comeback!
Nice! Love the mystery and the banter between them!
Confidence IS sexy! Super six, Stef!
Oooo, Stephanie! Okay, two meanings of “had” off the top of my head: one’s not really YA and the other IS pretty horrific, so this is definitely intriguing and you are killing me here. I want to know WHO THIS IS???
You’d be surprised what’s in YA these days. 😉
Love the house! Yes, he is definitely conveying, “I’ve got you now and it’s only a matter of time.” For us readers, alas, it’s one more week. Hurry up!
Love their dialogue! Intriguing six! 🙂
Tell me more! He’s intriguing me!
Intriguing, I want to know who he is!
I love YA Southern Gothic/Grotesque as a genre label. Okay, I want to know who he is already! Great six!
Love the movement in this, and the contrast between their voices. So intriguing!
You’re right–confidence is sexy. And the confidence of a mysterious and ghostly figure is just downright tantalizing. Can’t wait for next week. Oh, and can you call it a YA Southern Gothic/Grotesque? Hell yes. 🙂
Soft horror? I’m intrigued. Is it campy? How fun! A southern campy horror book. Ok, this sounds very interesting! I’m making a note on you. 🙂
No, it’s not campy at all. Sorry! 🙂 But there is a lot of dark humor and guy humor to temper the heavy stuff.
Okay. Sounds so interesting!
Loved your six, but that might be because I get the impression that there’s just a little cockiness mixed in with the confidence, and I’m a sucker for that combination. Glad I found your blog, I adore YA authors.
Well, he doesn’t mince words does he? I too love the confident heroes. Nice job!
That house is just gorgeous, and now I’m sooo curious to find out who ‘he’ is! 🙂 Good job
