Happy Sunday, Sixers! Everyone finally dried out? Hope y’all are safe and sound following last week’s storms.
This week I bring you another six from SHRAPNEL, my upper-YA paranormal/historical fiction/soft horror mutt that will be published in January by Evernight Teen.
Since Halloween is over, I’ve switched from the gorey stuff back to some smexy bits. This is from Jake’s POV after he and Dylan finish learning a new skill from their mentor.
Both are poking around Oakleigh House’s antique-stuffed parlor:
“Jake, could you come here?”
I swear her voice is different today. It’s still low, but smoother, like someone went over it with sandpaper and buffed away the grainy surface to reveal rich mahogany underneath. A bedroom voice, that’s what it is. My shaky knees—what the hell?—carry me over to the southern wall, where she gazes up at a portrait of a man. I get the urge to grab her chin and make her look at me.
As you can see to the left, the cover reveal for SHRAPNEL will be coming soon. The finished product is hawt! SHRAPNEL also has a Goodreads page so feel free to add it to your TBR list, pretty please! (There are even a few early reviews if you want to know more.)
Thanks for any feedback you care to leave, and please visit some of the other Six Sunday participants.
Have a great week!
Jake’s dilemma is one of the best parts of this book, and there are loads of good stuff so that’s saying a lot!
Wow! Very nice. Love the description of her voice and the last line. Great six!
I love combination of ramping up sensuality and that eerie question of her voice being different, of her staring up at the painting. Is there more going on? I hope so! Great snippet.
Very very nice. I love the build up and I have to say it’s very sexy. Just the build up and you can feel it. Great great job. Loved it. 🙂
I love the description of her voice though, as usual I was startled to realise that Dylan was a girl. Dylan is a boy’s name here.
